FARM & ARTS DAY CAMP

We connect children to the wonder and beauty of nature through farming, food, fun, and participation in traditional crafts. This day camp is a wonderful option for children ages 8-13 to experience these activities.

All Farm & Arts Day Camp sessions are two weeks long and run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

the children’s garden

The day’s gardening group will visit the Children’s Garden to help with activities such as harvesting, planting, weeding, and sifting compost. Breaks are taken under the shady arbor with refreshments of “Garden Tea” and veggie sampling.

in the kitchen

Each day there is a group of cooks or bakers. We love to celebrate different cultures when we create in the kitchen! What’s happening in the garden helps to inform what we make; whatever is plentiful calls out to be used. Dairy products from our cows and freshly collected eggs from our chickens help to round out the farm-to-table experience.

Campers should bring their own lunches to camp every day. The cooks and bakers will be preparing snacks that will supplement the lunches they bring.

caring for the animals

The group assigned to the animals for the morning has some important work to do: campers take the sheep out to pasture, collect eggs, feed scraps to the pigs, and help to socialize newborn calves.

explorers

Another group will spend the morning exploring the forests, streams, and ponds that surround the farm. Sharing observations and collecting items from nature that can be used in craft activities are an important part of our camp experience.

afternoon activities

After eating lunches that have been brought from home, campers participate in an afternoon activity that will be either swimming in our spring-fed pond, or creating beautiful and practical crafts from local natural materials. We always include something made with the wool of our dear sheep. Additional items may be made with such materials as clay, wood, glass and beeswax.
