Hawthorne Valley is hiring for a variety of support staff positions for our Farm Camps. We are seeking enthusiastic and positive folks to join our team as Farm-to-Table Cooks, Arts & Crafts Specialists, and Registered Camp Nurses.

Farm-to-Table Camp Cook
Responsibilities:
Ability to work in a busy and lively kitchen environment preparing meals from scratch for 70+ campers and staff
Ensuring compliance with the Columbia County Department of Health camp regulations
Prepping, cleaning, and plating meals from pre-approved kid-friendly recipes
Interest in working with farm-fresh products in a primarily vegetarian environment
Learning all the food allergies and sensitivities of campers and adhering to specific menu changes due to allergies
Provide a nurturing and responsive environment to campers, guests, and other staff members
Helping to ensure smooth operations of the daily needs of the kitchen by being flexible and attentive to details
Supporting Dining Hall Manager and Camp Directors with upholding all camp food-related protocols
Qualifications:
Experience cooking for large groups in a commercial kitchen environment
Knowledge of various food allergies and sensitivities
Safe Serv certification
Ability to follow a recipe
A good worth ethic with an ability to be flexible and work as a team member with all age groups, including campers
Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills
The ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
Previous cooking experience is required
Dates:
June 9 - August 3, 2024
Weekly Schedule:
Cooks will rotate between 6–8-hour shifts, six days per week, with one full day off per week.
Salary:
$3,800 for the 8-week season and full room and board.
Arts & Crafts Specialist
Position Overview:
The Arts & Crafts Specialist will be responsible for the planning, set up, oversight, and clean-up of all arts and crafts-related activities for Farm Explorer and Earth Steward campers
The Arts & Crafts Specialist will work closely with Camp Managers and Assistant Managers to plan and schedule arts and crafts activities during each camp session
The Arts & Crafts Specialist, with the support of Camp Managers, is responsible for ensuring that campers are provided opportunities to create high-quality, age-appropriate craft projects
The Arts & Crafts Specialist is responsible for caring for and keeping an inventory of arts and crafts materials, and reordering supplies as needed
The Arts & Crafts Specialist is responsible for the care and cleaning of The Forge, our summer camp crafts space
As needed, the Arts & Crafts Specialist will assist with other camp activities such as animal chores, swim time, evening gatherings, etc.
The Arts & Crafts Specialist will attend most mealtimes with other camp staff and campers
The Arts & Crafts Specialist is a residential position, full room and board is provided
Qualifications:
Candidates have experience working with children in educational or recreational settings
Experience with a variety of arts and crafts
Experience or interest in traditional crafts such as basketry, weaving, knitting, woodworking, natural dyeing, etc. is a plus
Experience teaching arts and crafts is preferred
Interest in working with natural and found materials, such as wood, wool, plants, beeswax, etc.
Candidates demonstrate initiative, creative problem-solving, and self-awareness
Candidates are organized, highly reliable, and collaborative
The ability to lift and carry 50 lbs

Weekly Schedule:
The Arts & Crafts Specialist will work six days per week with one scheduled day off. The Arts & Crafts Specialist will have scheduled breaks and time off during the week. Camp is in session for six weeks of programming with 2 weeks of paid staff training before camp.
Salary:
$3,400 for the 8-week season and full room and board.
In addition to the salary, the Arts & Crafts Specialist is provided full room and board.
Summer Camp Nurse
Position Overview:
The Camp Nurse is responsible for the medical needs of 72 campers ages 8 to 16, and 20 staff per session of camp. This includes our day and residential camps.
Ensures compliance with the Columbia County Department of Health camp health regulations.
Dispensing medicines, performing first aid, daily sick calls
Maintaining all medical records and documentation on campers and staff
Screening of incoming campers for any health issues
Liaison to camper parents
Accompanying campers/staff to doctors when needed
Provide a nurturing and responsive environment to campers, guests and other staff members.
Help to ensure the smooth operations of the daily needs of the camp by being flexible and attentive to details.
Support Camp Director, Camp Managers and counselors with upholding all camp medical protocols
Support Campers with any behavioral, health, emotional or learning issues
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse with current license in New York State and current CPR/AED certification
Experience working with children ages 8 to 16 is a plus
Nurturing personality able to work with all age groups and needs including homesickness.
A good work ethic with an ability to be flexible and work as a team member with all age groups.
Strong time management, communication, organizational and record-keeping skills.
Strong assessment skills and some knowledge of homeopathic medicines is a plus
Ability to live on campus in a private room while camp is in session
Ability to commit for a minimum of two weeks of camp
The ability to lift and carry 50 lbs
Age of 21 or older (new nurse graduates are encouraged to apply)

June 9 - August 3, 2024
Nurses may apply for the full summer or partial summer. Please include your availability in your application.
Salary:
$1,300 per week including a private room and all organic meals.
Please note: Our available housing is modest and cannot accommodate partners, children, or pets.
If you have a child ages 8 to 16, please let us know so we can determine if there would be availability for them to attend one of our camp sessions.
