farm camp experience

Hawthorne Valley is a 900 acre Biodynamic & Organic certified active farm. It is our goal to share the big picture of farm life with our campers in a way that is age appropriate and meaningful.

animal care

A large part of our camp experience, and one that sets us apart is our integration of farm animal care and camp life. Children partake in activities such as animal feeding & milking, barn cleaning, cow herding and horseback riding. The aim is for the campers to gain a reverence for nature & animals and learn the kind of care it takes to raise healthy, happy farm animals.

the horses

The children enjoy riding and caring for our two loving horses, Daisy & Sierra. We aim to create a wholistic experience where the campers understand that there is a give and take to our relationship with animals and we must respect & protect every living being.

the sheep

We enjoy the company of our sheep, Vesper and Luna. They provide a wonderful learning experience for the children, through bringing them to pasture, feeding & providing for them and receiving the gift of their wool for lessons & projects.

the chickens

Campers enjoy endless fun holding and petting the camp’s small flock of chickens. The children learn about this particular aspect of animal husbandry through collecting eggs, feeding the chickens and cleaning their coop. Our chef uses our fresh eggs the children have collected for many of our meals.
